PSG vs Monaco Preview

PSG is in superb form and has recently won the Champions League match against Barcelona, with their current priority being to return to the first place in the French first division. They are currently trailing the leader by eight points, but have a game in hand, so the difference could be reduced to just five tonight. Monaco used to be the main contender for winning the trophy, yet they are struggling in the second half and have a long way up to return among the leading pack.

PSG vs Monaco Tips

PSG scored three goals midweek, despite not having two of its best strikers fit to play, which was rather surprising, given the strength of their opponents. Both Ibrahimovic and Lavezzi were injured and they remain on the bench for this match, with the Swedish striker being only briefly confirmed as fit to play.

This means that the hosts will have fewer options upfront and even though they proved to be a tough contender without their best strikers, some doubts still persist. Five of the last seven games ended undecided, four of them with the same score 1-1, despite the fact that back then PSG was at full strength.

By comparison, Monaco struggled both on the road and in front of their fans, with their offensive being virtually toothless. Without their best strikers, they had a hard time scoring goals and won all the games so far by 1-0, while also losing by a narrow margin. Draws have been rather frequent, but the fact that they had to settle for a point on the road in St. Petersburg was not regarded as a failure.

Given the circumstances and with Berbatov also on the bench as a result of suffering an injury in the Champions League, the visitors are probably going to play defensive football. They have an additional striker injured, with Traore expected to miss October as well, so they will once again give the ball to Martial and Germain, even though they were ineffective so far.

Key Facts

  • Both teams have plenty of absentees and the two best strikers are missing for both Monaco and PSG.
  • The last four head-to-head games between the two teams ended undecided

PSG vs Monaco Prediction

There is simply no value in backing the hosts to win tonight and punters should be taking a leap of faith with Monaco not to lose tonight. A double chance wager has amazing odds, but you can further reduce the risks, by taking the cover of a 0:1 Asian handicap. If PSG prevails by the odd goal, the stakes will be refunded, which is great news given Monaco's performance so far.
