France vs Germany Betting Preview

Both France and Germany had to fight hard to secure a place in the quarterfinals, against opponents that were expected to go down without a fight. France scored twice in the last 10 min. of the game, while Germany needed overtime to advance at the expense of Algeria. Now the two teams meet in the most exciting match of the quarterfinals and the winner will be waiting on the match between Brazil and Colombia to decide the winner.

France vs Germany Betting Tips

The group stage went silky smooth for Germany who won the opening match by a wide margin and then secured four more points to win the first position. This was supposed to guarantee them an easier opponent in the first elimination round, but much to their credit, the Algerian players held their ground.

The fact that the Germans failed to score in 90 min. was of course surprising, but they were the dominant team and created numerous scoring opportunities. Muller was the man of the match, despite the fact that he could only brag about a decisive pass, but much more is expected of him against France.

What they need to improve is their defense, which allowed the Algerians to come dangerously close to their own net and push goalie Neuer to extreme actions. France can be dangerous on counterattacks and even though Benzema looked tired and lacking solutions, he remains a formidable striker. He had a fair number of chances to score against Nigeria, but he wasn't provided with quality balls.

France managed to keep a clean sheet in three of the four games so far and this could be a problem for Germany if they don't come out firing on all cylinders. Unlike Algeria who was likely to crumble under pressure, the former champions will be far more difficult to beat in overtime, so the favorites will need to wrap things up in 90 min.

Key Facts

  • Germany lost a single match in the last 25 while France was defeated once in the last 15
  • The two teams met on 10 occasions and France won five times, but all of them were friendly matches and this is the first time they meet at the World Cup.

France vs Germany Betting Odds Prediction

Germany won't have a joyride against France, but they still are the better team and the favorite to emerge victorious. Punters need to decide whether they will take a leap of faith and back them at odds of 2.45 with Bet365 to win in regulation time, or choose a draw no bet wager. This is a better choice for risk-averse players who are afraid of the match going into extra time, but the odds are decreased to 1.80.
