Real Sociedad vs Valencia Preview

Real Sociedad took everyone by surprise when they won at home against Real Madrid, despite the fact that the visitors took an early lead. Since that day they sank into near irrelevance and are hard pressed to break out from the slump tonight, when they take on Valencia. The visitors are in superb form and they will be aiming for all three points, trying to extend their winning streak to five games in a row.

Real Sociedad vs Valencia Tips

Valencia played without Negredo in the last round and that was a big reason for concern, as he is their best striker. Even without him, they managed to score 3 times on the road and extended the winning streak, while keeping a clean sheet against Cordoba. Truth be told, the visitors were toothless and didn't pose any problems whatsoever, something that won't happen again Real Sociedad.

What the visitors need to do is to prevent the hosts from taking control of the game, as they did against Real Madrid. They have the full backing of the fans and this is huge for the Basque team, but sadly for them, that was not enough. Scoring goals has been problematic for Real Sociedad and finding their way to the net against the team that kept a clean sheet in three of the last four games is most unlikely.

Valencia will stick to the 4-3-3 starting formation that was used for the first time this season but seems to work brilliantly, with Piatti, Alcacer and Feghouli upfront. The Algerian was used as a striker due to the fact that Negredo has sustained an injury and he managed to score in the last round so he will return.

Real Sociedad has a handful of quality strikers, but manager Arraste seems to be adamant in his decision to use only Agirretxe. The young striker scored just once this season and if he doesn't benefit from the support of midfielders, he is unlikely to score against Valencia.

Key Facts

  • Valencia won four games in a row and scored three goals in each victory, while allowing a single goal
  • Seven out of 18 games with Real Sociedad as hosts ended undecided, while Valencia prevailed on six occasions.
