Djokovic vs Tsonga Betting Preview

The top favorite at Wimbledon will try to confirm his status this afternoon, against a player that is clearly on an uptrend. Djokovic was quite disappointed about his performance in the Roland Garros final, where he lost to Nadal after taking the opening set. There is no better method to return to his winning ways than by prevailing at Wimbledon, but for the time being Tsonga is blocking his way to the quarterfinals.

Djokovic vs Tsonga Betting Tips

Djokovic began his adventure on grass rather late, but in a convincing manner, with the Serbian player choosing not to compete in the preliminary tournaments. He needed just three sets and less than two hours to win the opening match, but allowed Stepanek to take a set in the second round, before dealing with Gilles Simon in straight sets once again.

He has greatly improved his serving accuracy and managed some formidable returns, with all of them to be put to good use against the Frenchman. Tsonga is one of the less reliable players and that's why punters have second thoughts when it comes to betting large amounts on him. He tends to perform better when starting as underdog and he appears to have the weapons needed to cause an untimely elimination to the main favorite.

Tsonga lost in the second round in the London tournament and needed 5 sets in two games at Wimbledon, but eventually made it through. He was much more effective in the last match and prevailed in straight sets, while limiting Wang to a total of nine games.

This is the 20th time that Tsonga plays against Djokovic so it is only fair to say that he knows his opponent very well. Knowing his weaknesses will definitely improve his chances, but if the Serbian plays his a-game there is not much that Tsonga can do.

Key Facts

  • Djokovic won the last nine games against the Frenchman and 11 of the last 12, with Tsonga winning four in a row in 2008
  • Both players went through two tiebreaks at Wimbledon and won one of them

Djokovic vs Tsonga Betting Prediction

Djokovic will probably win the match, but there is no point in betting on this outcome at these ridiculously low odds. Tsonga has the skills and tenacity to cause an upset, but risk-averse punters would be better off settling for the Frenchman to win at least one set. Paddy Power offers even odds for this type of wager and it represents great value, given the circumstances.
